So for some completely unknown reason I find myself unable to use Firefox or Chrome in a reasonable manner at work. Through some manner of network or desktop wizardry all web requests are MUCH slower in either of the two aforementioned browsers, like 30 seconds or more from the time I hit enter to the time a webpage loads, sometimes closer to a whole minute when I’m particularly unlucky. This has sadly driven me to resort to the one thing I said I would never ever do again; use Internet Explorer. The best part about this whole mess? Like just about every other large (see also: stupid) company out there the baseline is IE 8 and pretty much any security conscious web platform advocates using the latest up-to-date release (of which this is obviously not). I can’t explain why its not up to date, nor can I figure out a reason to go to such lengths as to manipulate requests from other browsers to make them painfully slow but it all has the same result of driving me to return to using what is perhaps the worst web browser out in a manner that falls miles outside of what could be called secure.
FORT BLISS, Tex. — The Obama administration has decided to remove two of the four U.S. Army brigades remaining in Europe as part of a broader effort to cut $487 billion from the Pentagon’s budget over the next decade, said senior U.S. officials.
The reductions in Army forces, which have not been formally announced, are likely to concern European officials, who worry that the smaller American presence reflects a waning of interest in the decades-long U.S.-NATO partnership in Europe.
Top Pentagon officials have sought to allay the concerns by telling their NATO allies in private meetings that the United States will continue to rotate Army units through Europe on training missions to augment the presence of the remaining two brigades.
Honestly nothing would make me happier than a complete withdraw of every single US soldier and asset with Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The defense of the world is NOT our damn responsibility and its been slowly bankrupting us trying to do it. This is only a step in the right direction but maybe if the whole fucking country doesn’t collapse we can eventually get everyone out of the various nations we have setup shop in and return home so they can lead normal productive lives instead of “defending” people who in reality don’t give a damn if they live, die or turn into turnips.
